Expo 67: Then and Now

With the collaboration of Norman Arsenault, a former worker at Expo 67 which was kind enough to help us build this section, we will compare photographs of Expo 67 to those taken today.

The Monaco, Haiti and France pavilions: Please note that today, part of the canal is filled with gravel.	Britain and Man the Producer pavilions	Man the Producer and Britain pavilions	Jamaica and Indians of Canada Pavilions: The Jamaica pavilion is still on the site today, it serves as a reception hall for weddings etc. that you can rent.	Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development pavilion (OECD)	Here we see the musicians of the Trinidad and Tobago pavilion playing on their steel drums. It was one of the most animated places at Expo 67.
China pavilion	Here we see the Italian pavilion. Today, it is a curve of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.	In this picture, we are at the Place des Nations, the comparison is impressive. Note from Daniel "The webmaster".	Thailand Pavilion: In this photo, the angle of my camera is far from accurate. Near the bridge is now the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.	The Czechoslovakia and USSR Pavilions: Again, impressive comparison.	Access along the canals is often complicated at Parc Jean-Drapeau by the presence of fences or because trees and bushes prevent us from going there. To descend along the channel, by some miracle there is a staircase almost completely hidden in the bushes and that I saw by chance. If I was shooting to the right, another bush hid the view.
The deserted street when I took my photo, is located directly in front of the former Quebec Pavilion.	As I mentioned earlier, there are many fences at Parc Jean-Drapeau.	On this next picture, the bridge in the foreground goes from the Thailand pavilion, to finish at the center of the Place of Africa. We can see another bridge in the distance. It was demolished and they have forked the canal to the south (right).	Italian pavilion	Britain pavilion: The angle of my camera is not quite the same as this beautiful photo by Gerry McGee.	Swizterland, Austria and Iran Pavilions and in the background, the Jacques Cartier Bridge: This is similar to other comparisons I've already seen
The Austria pavilion and in the background, the City of Montreal: I took the next shot from the grassy knoll in which I am sure there are the remains of the theme pavilion Man the Explorer. In this large area, the Parc Jean-Drapeau called "Parterre on Ile Sainte-Helene", are held each summer heavy metal music concerts.	In this photo from 1967, the 5 small trees on the right have become very big. In the background, St-Helen Island Expo Express.	The France and Yugoslavia pavilions: The weeping willow in the foreground, has grown enormously since the Expo 67.	Here, I was on the same bridge, the one that connecting the Ontario to Canada pavilion. As I had a vague recollection of the photo from 1967, it gave a false position for me.	The Jamaica pavilion: Two things to say about the next photo in 1967. First, it was taken with a telephoto lens, giving the illusion that the Jamaica pavilion is close to the street, when in fact it is on the other side of the canal. Secondly, the block of grass in the foreground is now a huge range of shrubs over 3 feet tall. So I had to take my picture mounted on the cement curb where the two people are seated.	The Czechoslovakia and USSR Pavilions: As the following photo was taken in 1967 in the evening, I tried to recreate the same colors, it was taken right in the sunny afternoon of July.
The Czechoslovakia Pavilions and Africa Place: Of all the bridges of the Notre Dame Island, three of them was a fair services on one side and they were wider than others, and busier. Here is what looks like one of these bridges today, one that linked the Ceylon pavilion at the Africa Place.	CIBC Pavilion, Canadian Bank of Commerce Imparial. Now serves as office for the Parc Jean-Drapeau.	From left to right, Morocco, Ethiopia, Venezuela, Czechoslovakia and Italy. Right, the Lemoyne Channel.	Canada pavilion. Here is a nice comparison of the Jamaican pavilion.	A place often visited by pedestrians with sore feet, just to cool off a bit.	USA pavilion behind the Cosmos bridge.	Canada pavilion. Czechoslovakia pavilion.	The Totem from the Indian of Canada pavilion or the Kwakiutl totem pole. It was restored in 2007 by members of the family of the original sculptor, Tony and Henry Hunt. Theme pavilion.
			Boarding for the Hovercraft. You could go to La Ronde, by the waters of the St. Lawrence River from the Cité du Havre.	Tunisia pavilion: In 1974, the pavilion has been converted into guest house for receiving guests during the Olympic Games of 1976. Since 2005, it became a restaurant (snack).	Jamaica pavilion: In 1976, the pavilion serves as a warehouse for the 1976 Olympics and then, a cafe terrace in 1979 and 1980 and from 1993 to 1997 a Restaurant (concession). Recently, it is possible to rent the pavilion for receptions such as weddings etc.
